The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is seeking input from across the state to inform planning for the future of Oregon’s recycling system. After disruptions in the system in 2017, following international restrictions on material intake, the DEQ convened a recycling steering committee to identify the future of recycling in Oregon.

The committee has completed an assessment of the problems in our current recycling system and is conducting ongoing research to understand alternatives. Their work is focused on how to make a state system successful. Recommendations from the committee for modernization of the recycling system is anticipated later this year.

As part of the DEQ and the committee’s efforts to develop a modernized system for the state, they are holding regional listening sessions and offering counties an opportunity to provide input on this planning effort.
