State Land Board votes to move forward on sale of Elliott State Forest

Members reject Gov. Brown’s plan to keep the land near Coos Bay under public ownership

Oregon’s new state treasurer and new secretary of state teamed up Tuesday to vote for the potential sale of the Elliott State Forest, rejecting Gov. Kate Brown’s recently revealed plan to keep public the 82,500-acre forest near Coos Bay.

State Treasurer Tobias Read, a Democrat, called for continued movement toward the sale of the Elliott at a State Land Board meeting Tuesday in Salem. Secretary of State Dennis Richardson, a Republican, voted in support of Read’s plan. Brown, a Democrat, opposed them both.
