Every week in the month of July, FEMA is holding a summer engagement series of webinars to provide information about the upcoming Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities Grant Program (BRIC). The notice of funding opportunity is expected in the summer or fall of this year (2020). The table below outlines the proposed funding distribution with a formula distribution to states and territories, a designated Tribal set-aside, and a competitive grant process. Only states that have a nationally designated natural disaster in the last seven years are eligible, but the coronavirus emergency designation earlier this year has fulfilled that requirement. The funding, either through the formula or grant awards, can be used for technical assistance, capability and capacity building, mitigation, and management costs. See the table below for more information.

FEMA has placed an added emphasis on infrastructure projects and improving community lifelines which include transportation facilities. General project eligibility requirements include:

  • cost-effectiveness,
  • reduces/eliminates risk and damage from future natural hazards,
  • meets two consensus codes,
  • aligns with a Hazard Mitigation Plan, and
  • meets all environmental and historic preservation requirements.

The next webinar in the BRIC Summer Engagement Series is scheduled for Wednesday, July 15th, and covers BRIC and Building Codes. The fourth webinar of note will be Wednesday, July 22nd, and will cover BRIC and Community Lifelines.
