Governor Brown Appoints Mary Moller as Director of Executive Appointments

(Salem, OR) — Governor Kate Brown today announced the appointment of Mary Moller as Director of Executive Appointments, effective immediately.

“Mary’s professional experience and positive relationships at the Capitol are considerable and impressive,” Governor Brown said. “Her strong and collaborative leadership skills and community connections will help me make meaningful progress in appointing qualified and knowledgeable Oregonians from diverse communities statewide.”

Ms. Moller has served since 2008 as the director of local and federal government relations at Portland State University. She has also worked as a staff member for Congressman David Wu and as legislative director for the United States Student Association in Washington, D.C. A former Portland State University student body president, she earned a bachelor’s degree at PSU in 2002.

The Director of Executive Appointments in the Office of the Governor engages with a variety of stakeholder groups across the state to identify qualified volunteers to serve on Oregon’s 270 boards and commissions. The Director recommends candidates for the Governor’s selection and guides appointments through the Senate confirmation process. This requires an excellent grasp of the various missions of boards and commissions and how their work relates to that of state agencies, the Legislature and the Governor’s Office.

In identifying possible candidates to appoint, the Director must also balance the needs and goals of boards and commissions with demographic considerations such as geography, race, ethnicity, age, gender, military status and experience.
