Up to $906 million in available funds are up for grabs through the United States Department of Transportation Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) program. INFRA provides grants to transportation projects aimed at addressing aging infrastructure across the nation.

The program was established in the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act established INFRA, passed in 2015. In 2019, over $900 million in INFRA grants were awarded to 20 transportation projects in the U.S.

This year, awards will be made to both large projects ($25 million and above) and small projects ($5 million and above) with 10 percent of funds reserved for small projects, and 25 percent for rural projects.

Projects eligible for grants include: reconstruction, rehabilitation, acquisition of property (including land related to the project and improvements to the land), environmental mitigation, construction contingencies, equipment acquisition, and operational improvements directly related to system performance. The Department reports, that while grants may be used to support a variety of aspects of an infrastructure project, projects that are shovel ready and have local match are typically preferred.

The deadline to apply is February 25, 2020. Click here for information and to learn how to submit your application.
