Commissioner Cameron Speaks at Oregon Green Schools SummitMarion County Commissioner Kevin Cameron provided the keynote address at the 20th annual meeting of certified Oregon Green Schools (OGS) on Friday April 1, 2016 in Salem.  Commissioner Cameron, a trained Master Recycler, talked to the students about his personal experiences as a businessman and politician.

The Summit was an opportunity for students from across the state to convene for a day of celebration, learning and networking. At the summit, OGS strives to celebrate the accomplishments of each school and to provide opportunities to strengthen programs.

Students attended educational sessions that represented each section of the Oregon Green Schools application: waste reduction and recycling, water conservation, and energy conservation. Students also attended a session where they shared the story of the green school program at their school and learned from other schools.

Schools with active Oregon Green Schools certification were invited and 35 schools from around the state attended. Costs for a classroom substitute teacher and travel expenses were generously covered by each school’s garbage/recycling hauler.
