Save the Date: May 17th Webinar/Phone Call for Elected Official Regarding NOAA Flood Plain BiOp

DLCD and FEMA to present information on recently released NOAA BiOp

On May 17th from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. the Association of Oregon Counties and the League of Oregon Cities will be hosting a webinar or phone call regarding the recently release biological opinion (BiOp) from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries. Experts from the Department of Land Conservation and Development (DLCD) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will discuss how the BiOp will impact local governments. This call is geared towards elected officials; DLCD and FEMA are also holding two webinars for technical staff such as planners and flood plain managers.

Call in details will be emailed out to commissioners as soon as the details are finalized.

Two weeks ago the NOAA Fisheries delivered their final BiOp on the National Floodplain Insurance Program (NFIP) in Oregon to FEMA. The BiOp is posted on NOAA Fisheries’ website along with a break-out of the reasonable and prudent alternative (RPA) and a background/FAQ document (third through fifth bullets under “Habitat Protection, Floodplains”).
