Just one month in to 2020, Association of Oregon Counties (AOC) is heavily engaging in advocacy efforts. This Session, AOC lobbyists are tracking the more than 200 bills, and county commissioners, judges, and chairs have taken to the Capitol to advocate on policy that impacts their counties individually and all counties collectively.

To date, AOC is tracking a wide array of issues, including:

  • Transportation
  • Emergency management
  • Increasing state troopers
  • Cap and trade
  • Wildfire policy
  • Hemp
  • Behavioral health
  • Community corrections
  • Community mental health
  • County fair funding
  • Housing
  • Building codes

With only 35 days possible days in the 2020 Legislative Session, bills are moving fast and furious, and a clear window of what bills are likely to pass will be known soon as first chamber deadlines are already in sight.

For a bill in a policy committee to advance, it must be scheduled for a work session by February 7 and moved out of committee by February 13.

This deadline does not apply to joint committees, or House and Senate rules or revenue committees.
