Salem, Ore. (October 12, 2020) — The Association of Oregon Counties (AOC) announced the hiring of Tyler Janzen as legislative affairs manager for general governance and revenue.

Janzen comes to AOC having most recently served as a Chief of Staff in the Oregon State Legislature, where his work was focused on policy coordination and analysis and stakeholder engagement.

“Tyler is a familiar face to many commissioners through his work in the Legislature. I know he will do a great job and elevate the county voice on critical issues,” said Nikkel of the hire.

Janzen fills a long-standing vacancy on the legislative affairs team and joins Rob Bovett who serves as the association’s legal counsel and legislative director (covering public safety); and legislative affairs managers: Lizzy Attwood Wills (health, human services, and housing); Mallorie Roberts (transportation and community economic development); and Lauren Smith (natural resources and veterans). Andy Smith, long-time AOC health and human services and veterans legislative affairs manager will transition roles and serve as the director of AOC County Solutions in November.

“With many key issues on the line for counties in the 2021 Legislative Session, I am pleased to see our advocacy team complete,” said Jim Doherty, AOC president and Morrow County Commissioner. “Tyler is the final piece to our puzzle, joining our already outstanding team, I know the voice of counties will be amplified in the Capitol.”

Janzen’s first day will be Monday, November 2, 2020.
