ODOT Distracted Driving Press Conf photoDistracted driving in Oregon causes a traffic crash every 2.5 hours, and that rate continues to increase. Further, a recent survey indicated 75% of Oregonian’s admit to driving while distracted! April has been named National Distracted Driving Awareness Month to help and confront this growing problem, not only in Oregon, but throughout the nation.

To address this in a collaborative way, the Oregon Department of Transportation, Oregon State Police, AAA, and other partners are founding the Oregon Distracted Driving Task Force, and they want a county commissioner to represent the local government perspective on this important confluence of health, public safety, and transportation. The full task force will meet 2-3 times this year, starting this month, and a call-in option will be available.

If you are interested in serving on this Task Force, or have any questions, please contact Daniel Hauser by email, or  (503) 970-4614.
