The Association of Oregon Counties (AOC) is a 24-member staff of professional employees with broad duties and skill-sets. Each team member has a personal story, and unique attributes that help make AOC the success it is today. Here is an opportunity to meet a member of your AOC team.

Meet AOC Legislative Affairs Manager, Mallorie Roberts

Mallorie Roberts joined the AOC family in July of 2020. In her role, Mallorie represents AOC by lobbying on behalf of all 36 counties in the State Legislature on transportation and community development issues.

Mallorie brings a diverse legal and public policy background to AOC. Prior to joining the team, Mallorie served as legislative director for Representative McKeown, chair of the Joint Committee on Transportation, served as in-house legal counsel and VP of Operations for a small business, and lobbied on behalf of a variety of clients for a small lobby firm in Salem.

Mallorie earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Peace and Conflict Studies from the College of St. Benedict/St. John’s University in Minnesota and Juris Doctorate from Lewis and Clark Law School in Portland.

AOC Legislative Affairs Department and County Road Program

Mallorie’s role is housed primarily in the AOC Legislative Affairs Department, but also supports the work of the County Road Program (CRP).

The Legislative Affairs Department advocates for counties at the State Capitol, within state agencies, and with federal partners to pursue an agenda set by AOC members.

The AOC CRP was established in 1990 as a cooperative with the Oregon Association of County Engineers and Surveyors (OACES) to provide advocacy, education, and cost-effective solutions as a trusted central resource for information and technical assistance for Oregon’s county road departments. The purpose of the CRP is to enhance county road management capabilities with programs of shared technical assistance. The core functions of CRP include: advocating for the county road system; providing education and information to road officials; providing cost accounting software – IRIS – for county road departments; and staffing OACES.

Why Mallorie Loves AOC

“Counties have a unique and powerful role in shaping communities, growing local economies, and ensuring that all Oregonians prosper. AOC’s membership and staff share a real dedication to public service and to achieving positive outcomes that move our state forward — I’m  proud to be a part of that effort.”

What Interested Mallorie in Government and the Legislative Process

“I was drawn to public service from a young age and pursued a career in law and government to fulfill that sense of civic duty and make a positive difference in my community and for future generations.”

AOC’s Future

I believe that  AOC is uniquely positioned to be to be a leader in policy conversations around housing and infrastructure, economic development, modernizing our transportation system, and deploying broadband across the state — by focusing on what unites counties, AOC can be a strong nonpartisan voice for well-reasoned, evidence-based public policy that lifts every community in Oregon.”

Outside of AOC

Mallorie lives in Albany with her husband Blake and Blue Heeler, Arlo. In her spare time she enjoys reading, gardening, and spending time in Oregon’s great outdoors.
