In a major victory for America’s counties, the State and Local Coronavirus Fiscal Recovery Funds legislation, part of the American Rescue Plan Act, is now finalized. The law, which the National Association of Counties (NACo) helped to develop and strongly advocated to pass, includes $65.1 billion in direct, flexible aid for every county, parish, and borough in America. NACo has secured significant resources to strengthen our communities by investing in small businesses and nonprofits, vaccine distribution, public health and safety, human services, especially for those suffering from domestic violence, mental illnesses and substance use disorders, and much-needed infrastructure, including access to broadband.
NACo is now focused on the implementation of the American Rescue Plan and is working with federal partners to bring questions and comments from counties about the law to the federal policymakers who will finalize the rules and regulations around this fund.
NACo has also launched a COVID-19 Recovery Clearinghouse, which houses critical resources for counties, including allocation estimations, examples of county programs using federal coronavirus relief funds, the latest news, and more.
