JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Planner processes land use applications ranging from simple to relatively complex applications such as conditional use permits and variances. This position also conducts research and prepares reports, occasionally makes presentations to the Planning Commission, provides explanations to the public of the County’s land use program, reviews building permits for compliance with development regulations, and performs associated administrative tasks.

Annual salary range of:

  • $63,349.40 – $88,559.00
  • This position is eligible for up to two salary raises within your first year. Increases may be given at the end of the 6-month probationary period, depending on starting salary, and at the 1-year anniversary, as long as your performance is in good standing! Increases are given until the maximum of the salary range is reached.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (TA41)
The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Planning, Geography, Public Administration, or a related field ; AND
  • 1 year of work experience in land use planning, zoning compliance and regulation, building project planning, or building permits.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted. Please note candidates must have at least 6 months of actual work experience to be considered as equivalent.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Knowledge of Oregon’s land use planning system.
  • Ability to learn code and multiple review procedures.
  • Ability to manage numerous simultaneous projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interaction with a wide array of people.
  • Skill in the use of geographic information systems (GIS).
  • Possess problem solving skills to solve complex issues related to land use, infrastructure, transportation, and community development.
