Each year the AOC president selects a focus area to implement through their service to the organization.

Coos County Commissioner Melissa Cribbins, elected AOC president, in November of 2020, announced her initiative at the association’s Annual Conference: Reconnect and Rebuild.

“We gain a lot of value from being together. Being a commissioner can be isolating at times, and AOC creates a place for us to connect, share ideas, best practices, and resources,” said Cribbins of the initiative.

Cribbins plans to bring commissioners, judges, and chairs safely to engage and unite Oregon’s 36 counties, and provide a forum that fosters connection.

After a challenging year for all counties, through the pandemic, catastrophic wildfires, flooding, and windstorms, Cribbins noted that many counties were faced with new circumstances that could not be anticipated. “Counties are stronger when we unite and support one another,” said Cribbins. Through her initiative, AOC will focus on helping counties work with and lean on one another to start rebuilding their communities.
