Through late summer and early fall, the Association of Oregon Counties (AOC) held its annual district meetings.

District meetings offer a forum for AOC member counties to gather together with regional partners for collaboration and knowledge sharing on the most important issues facing their communities.

Members of the AOC executive committee and management team were in attendance at meetings across all of AOC’s eight districts. “District meetings have been critical engagement opportunities for members to collaborate on regional issues, and work together to elevate their needs from AOC,” commented AOC President and Umatilla County Commissioner George Murdock. “This forum offers a place for meaningful connection with fellow commissioners, judges, and chairs. Throughout the state, I’ve continued to hear commentary on how wonderful it is to connect with colleagues in-person again and dive deep into the issues. I’m glad AOC can help foster this opportunity for members.”

This year, district meetings covered a number of pressing issues including:

  • Aid and assist
  • Housing and homeless
  • Lack of buildable land
  • Measure 109
  • Measure 110
  • Wildfire risk assessment

In addition to hot topics and regional issues, members of each district engaged in discussions on AOC business such as the 2023 proposed budget, AOC strategic plan, review of the 2022 Legislative Session, and 2023 Legislative Session preview, AOC bylaws revision, and more.

The value of the district meetings is dependent upon participation from local officials. We are appreciative of the effort people made to take part,” commented Murdock.
