The Association of Oregon Counties (AOC) strategic planning process is entering the final leg of its multi-faceted, inclusive member creation and review.

At its July 11 meeting, the AOC Board of Directors received a report on the status of the organization’s strategic planning process – AOC Reimagined.

The report included six distinct themes created by the AOC membership, and draft Strategic, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Bound (SMART) goals created in an interactive membership feedback process through AOC’s committees.

During the months of May and June, member committees convened to review and develop the goals for member-identified strategic planning themes detailed below.

  • Leadership, Advocacy, and Policy (Brand and Reputation)

(AOC Legislative Committee)

  • Strategic Partnerships: AOC – State Relationship

(AOC Legislative Committee)

  • Engagement, Communication, Collaboration, and Unity (While Appreciating Diversity)

(AOC Membership Committee)

  • Professional Development/Learning and Resources (Capacity Building)

(AOC Membership Committee)

  • Financial Stability (Organizational Viability)

(AOC Budget and Finance Committee)

  • Cross-County Collaborative/Collaboration—Innovation in Problem-Solving

(AOC County Solutions Advisory Committee and Oregon Association of Engineers and Surveyors)

Draft goal statements were reviewed, and will be refined with strategic planning facilitator, Salam Noor. These goal statements will next be reviewed at the regional level during AOC’s fall district meetings. Following collection of this critical membership feedback, AOC and Noor will review the goal statements for any necessary updates. As a part of his president’s initiative, AOC President and Umatilla County Commissioner George Murdock will lead the presentation of the final strategic plan during the AOC Annual Conference in November.
