After more than two years of doing nearly everything via Zoom or Microsoft Teams, CIS’ popular, in-person conference returns. The CIS Annual Conference brings leaders from across Oregon to discover “best practices” related to employee benefits, risk management, pre-loss, and more. As a public, not-for-profit trust, CIS knows that reducing risk can benefit cities, counties, and the entire pool. All of CIS’ sessions are planned with this in mind. The CIS Annual Conference also brings cities and counties together to network with innovators as well as those who can make sense of complex challenges.

While the CIS staff is excited to meet in person, some members have said that they would like the ability to attend the conference without leaving the comfort of their office. With that in mind, CIS’ 21st Annual Conference will be a fully hybrid experience, combining a live in-person event with a virtual online component. All conference sessions will be streamed live to the virtual audience.

As part of the summer conference, CIS has combined its Annual Public Safety Conference into one event — which will feature a dedicated public safety track

CIS is also pleased to announce the two outstanding conference keynote speakers: Kevin Briggs and Lindsay Boccardo. On Thursday, Aug. 25, Kevin will share his secrets of individual wellness and crisis communication. He talks about conducting a self-assessment and the importance of self-care — as well as tips to reduce stress. Then on Friday, Aug. 26, Lindsay will deliver CIS’ closing address titled “Our Big Bright Future.” She reveals how public employees can adapt and live with hope and excitement despite feeling surrounded by constant negative noise.

In addition, CIS will return with its regularly scheduled programing, which includes the following featured sessions:

Working Hand in Hand: Navigating Personnel Matters from the Employment and Labor Law Perspectives Katie Kammer, CIS Sr. Pre-Loss Employment Attorney

Ashley Driscoll, Attorney

Social Media Madness: Why is This Stuff so Risky and Frustrating?! Tamara Russell, CIS Deputy General Counsel
