The AOC Transportation and Community Development Committee held its monthly meeting on Monday February 12th, with the main topic not surprisingly being the first week of the legislative session. Major topics discussed included a heated debate around the Cap and Invest bill, which continues to dominate much of the headlines, as well as AOC’s County 2.5 percent Video Lottery funding bill. That bill, HB 4069, received a public hearing on the first day of session with Lane County Commissioner Sid Leiken and Lincoln County Commissioner Terry Thompson providing testimony in support. Other issues discussed include fixes to the big transportation funding bill from last session, a variety of land use bills and a particularly sticky building codes issue regarding the use of third party private inspectors. The committee also heard presentations from Leah Horner from ODOT, Patrick Brennan from Committees Services, and Chuck Deister, who explained an issue with cross laminated timber and international building codes.
